The Hotel Maingau is part of the lively district of Sachsenhausen
Sachsenhausen, located in the south of Frankfurt and on the ‘Dribb de Bach’ side of the Main, is the largest district of Frankfurt with around 60,000 inhabitants. This district is particularly popular with students, night owls and culture lovers. Here you can still discover individual retail shops, charming boutiques, creative fashion designers, cosy restaurants and trendy pubs.
Alt-Sachsenhausen and the apple wine
‘Ebbelwoi’, Frankfurt’s national drink, is also known as Stöffche or Äppler and is traditionally served in a “Gerippten” – a glass with characteristic diamonds that provides a secure grip. Cider has developed into a versatile beverage: In addition to the classic ‘Schoppen’, there are exquisite vintage apple wines, single-varietal apple wines and even sparkling apple wines that are hand-shaken using the champagne method.
In Alt-Sachsenhausen, which is within easy walking distance of the Hotel Maingau, numerous traditional apple wine taverns are lined up between Affentorplatz and Frankensteiner Platz. Here you can enjoy not only Äppler, but also Frankfurt specialities such as green sauce, ribs with cabbage or Handkäs with music.
At weekends and after victories by Frankfurt’s football team Eintracht, Alt-Sachsenhausen turns into a lively party centre, with exuberant celebrations both in the pubs and on the streets.
The Brückenviertel – a neighbourhood with a special flair
Just 300 metres from the Hotel Maingau is the Brückenviertel, a trendy district around Brückenstraße and Wallstraße. Here you will find small fashion boutiques, cosy cafés, cider pubs, cocktail bars, design shops and bookshops. Away from the main shopping streets, you will find individual life and creative diversity here.
